Mr. Hamidu Adakurugu is the Chief Director of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment. Mr. Adakurugu has over twenty-seven (27) combined years of work experience in administration and management in Ghana’s Public Service. This comprises seven (7) years in the Local Government Service and twenty (20) years in the Civil Service where he served in five (5) different Government Ministries.
As Chief Director, Mr. Adakurugu provides leadership through the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes for the attainment of the objectives of the Sector. He is responsible for overseeing and administering the day-to-day activities of the office and develop procedures and systems which ensure productive and efficient office operations. He is also responsible for organising and facilitating meetings, conferences and various national events of the Sector. As a lawyer, he served as a liaison between his respective Ministries and the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice in coordinating and addressing legal issues seamlessly.
Mr. Adakurugu has served on several Boards and Committees including the Ghana Scholarship Authority, Health Facilities Regulatory Agency, Health Sector Occupational Pension Scheme, Human Trafficking Management Board, Entity Tender Committees of the Ministry of Health, College of Physicians and Surgeon, School of Anesthesia, and National Pensions Regulatory Authority. Other sector-wide Committees he served on include the National Air Transport Facilitation Committee of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Labour Legislation Review Technical Committee of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
Mr. Adakurugu is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, Legon where he pursued both first and second degrees in Law. He is also an alumnus of the Ghana School of Law and a member of the Ghana Bar Association for twenty-two (22) years. His qualifications include Master of Laws (LL.M) in Oil & Gas, Master of Public Administration, Barrister-at-Law, Bachelor of Laws, and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy & Arabic Language.
Mr. Adakurugu has passion for promoting prudence and eliminating waste in public service and his long-held virtue is to positively impact the lives of individuals and society through public service and transformational leadership.
